Oy! I missed last week’s post. I apologize. I’m in the midst of Girl Scout cookie season right now, and I’m also in the midst of my busiest season for work, so it gets a little hard to keep up with everything.

A quick explanation for the above. The upper classman character is named “Ratt” because at one time he was a rat. In fact, he was the original rat in “Rats!” But rats don’t always stay rats, and so he became an upper classman. So if you were confused about the name, there ya go!

I’m going to eat dinner now. Girl Scout cookie season is exhausting, so I need to keep my strength up.

  1. My daughter is graduating from VT this and is a member of the corps (VPI) and we have enjoyed reading the Rats! comic strip. I’m sure she has told us more than once what a stick card is, but I’m afraid I can’t remember what she said. Can you enlighten us readers? Thanks. Keep up the good work.

PS I, too, was once a GS leader, and cookie cupboard person, and cookie mom and I remember those days (fondly?). Those thin mints always called to me no matter how far away I kept them.

  2. Shari,

Thank you for the comments! A stick card is an index card that rats have to write out with the following information on it: what they did wrong, when they did it, how many demerits they got for it, and who caught them doing something wrong. They were a pain in the butt to fill out. One mistake and you had to do the whole thing all over again!

Congrats on your daughter’s upcoming graduation! I know you must be very proud! And thank you for all your work with Girl Scouts. We are neck deep in cookie sales now, with booth sales starting tonight. I’m going to be very tired this weekend 😉

  3. I just found your Rats comic. It brought back soo many memories.
